about the project

The 1st Wheel of Knowledge: Capoeira, Culture and Resistance is a celebration of the cultural and historical richness of capoeira, designed to gather the community of Manaus in a space for the exchange of knowledge, experiences and social inclusion.

This project seeks to value capoeira in all its dimensions - such as physical practice, artistic expression, pedagogical instrument and symbol of cultural resistance. During their realization, practical workshops and round tables will bring together masters, practitioners and researchers from various regions, promoting a unique exchange of experiences and methodologies.

Strengthen and preserve the tradition of capoeira as an intangible cultural heritage, promoting its history and values for new generations.
Create an affordable and welcoming space where people of all ages and levels of experience can experience and learn about capoeira.
Foster social inclusion and diversity, through activities open to the public and designed for different audiences.
Establish connections between masters, practitioners and cultural institutions, encouraging new partnerships and future projects.

What will happen?

Capoeira workshops - focused on various audiences, with practical and theoretical content about styles, musicality and foundations of capoeira.
Round tables - meetings and debates with masters and researchers, discussing topics such as cultural resistance, capoeira pedagogy and social inclusion.
Audiovisual Registration - Construction of a Digital Project Collection, with records of activities and testimonials for memory and public consultation.

The project is open and free, and was designed to:

Children, youth, adults and the elderly of the Manauara community.
Capoeira practitioners of all levels.
Educators, students and researchers interested in Afro-Brazilian culture and capoeira.
General public that values cultural diversity and inclusion.

More than an event, the 1st Wheel of Knowledge is an invitation to reflect and appreciate capoeira as a living and relevant practice. We believe that meetings like this strengthen community ties, promote cultural citizenship and inspire future generations to recognize and preserve this important cultural heritage.
